Last Monday at a friend’s house, she noticed their nativity scene set up on the hearth. Immediately she picked up the little 2-inch baby Jesus, brought him to me, and said “baby!”. Then she pulled up her shirt and said “nee” (nurse).

Changes

“Camera” is no longer pronounced “mami” around here; she says “cam-ah”.
“Muppets” is no longer “mami” either; now it is “muhmit”.
And “blanket” has changed from “mami” to “mamik” (a small distinction, to be sure, but she really hits that “k” hard).
(*sigh*)

open = “ammo”
closed = “cow” (although she also says “cow” when she means cow)
at last count, her word “mami” now means: piano, blanket, medicine, camera, Molly, vacuum cleaner, and Muppets. Which you’d think would be confusing, but she is usually very clear about which one she means — usually by lunging at whatever object [...]
