We’re definitely going to have to do something about the clutter around here

Or at least try to care less.
When we first moved into this house, the monkey was only crawling — which made it much easier to arrange the furniture in a baby-safe configuration. We’re not particularly fastidious about the babyproofing — for instance, when the monkey started getting into the bottom drawers in the kitchen, [...]
Weird fears

I can understand some of Ilze’s baby fears — the garbage disposal, for instance, is very loud and growly. The vacuum cleaner is loud and growly AND moves around the house. Fear of these appliances gives me no pause; it makes sense that they would freak her out a little, and it makes [...]

What can I say? My kid is cute, and you know it!
Here are some of the more adorable things that she does lately:
When you ask her to choose between two things she does this long, exaggerated “UMMMMMmmmmmmmmm” while her hand hovers in the air, and then a triumphant shout when she points [...]

And it kicked our collective asses.
This weekend started early, on Friday–V took a day off of work so that we could spend all day driving around town, moving appliances and furniture and taking stuff to the dump. Hooray for heavy lifting!
[Really, it started LAST weekend, when we spent all of Saturday overhauling the garage. [...]
The monkey makes her first joke

Lately she has gotten into a habit of popping off minutes (or seconds) into a nursing session to tell me that she wants to switch sides. (Which basically consists of pointing frantically while grinning and saying “aah-BISS!”, but I know what she means.) Yesterday she stepped it up a notch, though — after [...]
Other stuff she says . . .

If you hear her say “num-uh nah” . . . it means that she wants to hear the song “Mahna, Mahna” as performed by Cake.
Music = “meemee”
Phone = “whoa”
Fan = “wow” [Phone and fan sound almost exactly alike when she says them. Which makes sense, I guess, because they sound fairly similar when [...]
Still sick, and now pissed off too!

Freakin’ Bush. I swear, if I weren’t feeling so crappy, I would totally drag the monkey to the political rally taking place in Everett tomorrow afternoon.
Instead, here are some comments from people who are as pissed off about the veto as I am. Enjoy!

I’ve had that weird, raw-throat-that-feels-like-the-beginning-of-a-cold feeling for days now, and yesterday evening I was dumb enough to mention to my husband that my throat had been feeling weird for a few days “but it doesn’t seem to be getting any worse.”
Ha ha ha.
So this morning I woke up feeling like ass, and after I got [...]
Holy shit, is she putting together sentences already?!?

The other day we were laying down to nurse, and my necklace (a chime ball pendant) fell forward and into her mouth. She closed her mouth around it, and after I had teased it back out she piped up wtih “Ah baht da nahnee!”(See previous post for “English-to-Ilze” dictionary.)
I asked her, “did you bite [...]
